O’Brien Material Handling Cranes has established itself as the only full-service crane manufacturer in Atlantic Canada and the Memramcook-based company has even more ambitious plans for the future.

O’Brien employs 16 experienced and trusted fabricators, welders, electricians, painters, office staff and salespeople across the Maritimes. President and chief executive officer, Brianne D’Souza, has set a goal of becoming one of the best managed companies in Canada and one of the top employers in the region.

“Over the past three decades of operation, and through our philosophy, O’Brien’s leadership vision has been to be a progressive employer that provides an open, close-knit and family-oriented work environment,” D’Souza said.

“By constantly improving our skills through training, we ensure that we remain leaders and innovators in the industry,” she continued. “We provide customized solutions to suit specific needs and we can service, install, modernize older equipment along with handling any overhead crane problems 24-7.”

O’Brien also offers crane operator training services as well as inspection and maintenance work.

O’Brien was founded by D’Souza’s father, Hugh O’Brien, in 1987 and operated as Omni Material Handling until 1992, when he incorporated the business and changed its name.

As a young adult, Hugh O’Brien moved to Ontario and founded O’Brien Lifting Solutions before returning to Memramcook, where he started the business that still thrives today.

Since taking over the business from her father, D’Souza has had an eye on expansion while sticking with its original approach to “partner with suppliers, customers, and employees to build a successful future together.”

“I see O’Brien being the benchmark of the industry and the leader in setting standards for lifting solutions. I have some big things up my sleeve,” she said.
